Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about working with Lund Bookkeeping, how services are structured, and what to expect.

Getting Started

How do I know if we’re a good fit?

I work best with small business owners who value clear communication, dependable support, and thoughtfully managed accounting. My clients typically have annual revenue up to $5M, prefer to stay out of day-to-day accounting details, and understand the importance of timely responses.

The best way to determine fit is through an initial consultation where we can discuss your specific situation and needs.

What happens during the initial consultation?

We’ll have a virtual conversation about your business, current accounting situation, and what kind of support would be most helpful. This is also an opportunity to discuss pricing and determine if we’re a good fit. There’s no obligation, and the goal is for both of us to understand whether working together makes sense.

Consultations are conducted via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WebEx, or Google Meet—whichever you prefer.

How long does it take to get started?

After our initial consultation and agreement on scope, onboarding typically begins within 1-2 weeks. The first 30 days focus on setup, review, and stabilization. Most clients feel a noticeable sense of organization and clarity by the end of the first month.

Do you offer a trial period?

While I don’t offer a formal trial period, either party can end the engagement with written notice. The first 30 days naturally serve as an opportunity for both of us to confirm the working relationship is a good fit.

Services & Scope

What services do you offer?

I provide customized monthly accounting services including:

  • Monthly bookkeeping (transaction review, categorization, reconciliations)
  • Payroll support (processing coordination, tax compliance, reporting)
  • Accounts payable and invoicing assistance
  • Accounting system setup and guidance (QuickBooks Online, Xero)
  • Catch-up and cleanup work

Services are tailored to your business rather than offered as rigid packages.

Do you prepare tax returns?

No. While I’m a CPA, my focus is on bookkeeping and accounting support. I work closely with tax preparers and can provide well-organized books for tax season, but I don’t prepare tax returns. I can coordinate with your tax professional to ensure smooth handoffs.

What accounting software do you work with?

I primarily work with QuickBooks Online and Xero. I can also help with transitions from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. If you’re not sure which system is right for your business, I can provide guidance based on your needs.

Do you work with my industry?

I have experience across multiple industries including professional services, consulting, retail, e-commerce, and small manufacturing. If your business operates in a highly specialized industry, we can discuss specifics during our initial conversation to ensure I’m the right fit.

Can you help if my books are a mess?

Yes. Catch-up and cleanup work is one of the services I provide. We’ll assess the situation, determine what needs to be addressed, and create a plan to get your books current and organized. These projects are scoped individually based on the time period and complexity involved.

Do you offer one-time projects or only ongoing support?

Both. Most clients work with me on an ongoing monthly basis, but I also support businesses with specific, time-bound needs such as year-end cleanup, accounting system transitions, or historical catch-up work.

Remote Services

How does remote bookkeeping work?

All services are provided virtually. I’m happy to schedule a phone or video meeting (through Zoom, Teams, WebEx, or Google Meet) or if you prefer email and text, I can accommodate that as well. Documents are shared securely through Verifyle, an encrypted platform designed for financial professionals. You’ll have access to your financial reports 24/7 through your accounting software.

Do you only work with businesses in certain states?

I’m licensed in Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, and Wisconsin, and work with businesses across these states. All services are provided remotely, so your physical location within these states doesn’t matter. You do, however, need to be within the United States.

What video meeting platforms do you use?

I’m flexible! I use Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WebEx, or Google Meet—whatever works best for you. During our initial consultation, you can choose your preferred platform.

Is remote bookkeeping as good as in-person?

Yes. With today’s technology, remote bookkeeping is just as effective—and often more efficient—than in-person services. You get the same level of professional support with added convenience: no need to schedule in-person meetings, documents are available 24/7, and communication happens on your schedule.

Pricing & Billing

How much do your services cost?

Services are priced based on the scope of work, complexity, and level of support required. Monthly engagements are billed at a consistent rate, while one-off projects are quoted individually. Pricing is discussed during the initial consultation once I understand your business needs.

How does billing work?

For ongoing monthly engagements, invoices are issued monthly (typically at the beginning of each month for the prior month’s work). For one-off projects, invoicing occurs upon completion or on a milestone basis depending on project size. Payment terms are outlined in the engagement letter.

What happens if my needs change?

Pricing reflects the agreed-upon scope of work. If your needs change or additional work is required, we’ll discuss adjustments before proceeding. Clear communication ensures you always know what to expect. As your business grows or changes, your accounting support can scale accordingly.

Are there any setup fees?

Setup and onboarding work are typically included in the first month’s services. If significant cleanup or system migration is required, this may be scoped as a separate project with clear pricing discussed upfront.

Working Together

How do we communicate?

I can respond to emails or texts, usually faster than I may have the ability to take a call. But if you need to chat, just let me know! Phone calls or video meetings are scheduled as needed. Many clients benefit from periodic check-ins to review financials, discuss changes, or address questions. The timing and frequency are based on your needs and preferences.

How quickly do you respond to questions?

I aim to respond to emails within 1-2 business days. For urgent matters, I do my best to respond more quickly when possible. Clear communication about priorities and deadlines helps ensure timely support.

Will I have direct access to you or work with a team?

You’ll work directly with me (Amy Lund). I don’t have a team or delegate client work to others. This ensures consistency, continuity, and direct communication throughout our working relationship.

What do you need from me to do your work?

I need timely access to your accounting software, bank accounts, credit cards, and payroll systems (as applicable). I also need responses to clarification questions, communication about upcoming changes or priorities, and review of financial reports as needed. A successful working relationship is built on mutual responsiveness and trust.

What if I’m not good at staying organized or responding quickly?

Part of my role is to help create structure and organization. However, timely responses to clarification questions are important for keeping work moving smoothly. If responsiveness has been a challenge historically, we can discuss ways to make communication as efficient as possible for your working style.

Can I end the engagement if it’s not working out?

Yes. Either party can end the engagement with written notice. Fees for services performed up to the termination date remain payable, and I’ll ensure a clean handoff of all records and documentation.

Security & Confidentiality

How do you keep my financial information secure?

All client information is kept strictly confidential and secure. Access to accounting software and bank accounts is provided through secure, read-only credentials or bank feeds. I use Verifyle for secure file sharing, which employs bank-level encryption. I follow professional standards for data security and confidentiality, and these provisions are included in the engagement letter.

Will you share my information with anyone?

No. All client information is kept confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties except as required by law or with your explicit consent (for example, providing information to your tax preparer at your request).

Specific Situations

I’m just starting my business. Is it too early to work with you?

Not necessarily. If you’re generating revenue, have expenses to track, or want to establish good financial systems from the beginning, accounting support can be valuable. We can discuss your specific situation during a consultation to determine if it makes sense now or if you should wait until your business is more established.

I already have a bookkeeper/accountant. Can you take over?

Yes. Transitions are common. I’ll work to understand your current setup, review the existing records, and ensure a smooth handoff. If there are any issues or gaps in the prior work, I’ll identify and address them during the transition process.

What if I need help during tax season?

If you’re an ongoing client, I’ll ensure your books are organized and ready for your tax preparer well before deadlines. I can also coordinate directly with your tax professional to provide any needed documentation or clarification. For one-off tax season cleanup, this can be scoped as a project.

My personal and business finances are mixed. Can you help?

Ideally, personal and business finances should be separated. If this has been a challenge, I can provide guidance on how to establish proper separation going forward. For historical periods where expenses are mixed, I can work to categorize and separate them, though this may require additional time and clarification from you.

What if I have questions about reports or need help understanding my financials?

Questions are always welcome. Part of my role is to help you understand your financial reports and what they mean for your business. I’m happy to walk through reports, explain terminology, and discuss what the numbers are telling you about your business performance.

How often will we meet?

This depends on your needs and preferences. Some clients prefer monthly virtual check-ins to review financials. Others prefer quarterly meetings or ad-hoc meetings as needed. We’ll establish a communication cadence that works for your business during onboarding.

What happens if something urgent comes up?

Occasional urgent issues can happen. If something time-sensitive arises, reach out via email or phone so we can address it appropriately. While I build in responsiveness for urgent matters, ongoing support is structured to prioritize consistency and planning over reactive work.

What about different time zones?

I’m based in Wyoming (Mountain Time) and work with clients across multiple time zones. I’m happy to accommodate flexible meeting times that work for your schedule.

Still Have Questions?

The best way to get answers specific to your situation is to schedule a consultation. We can discuss your business, current challenges, and whether working together would be a good fit.
